Easter horror movies, books and games from the 90s

90s Easter Horror

8 Easter-egg-shaped gems to unwrap this April!

As Easter fast approaches, we can’t help but look at the books, films and games themed around this much-loved holiday. We love a good, seasonal horror, particularly when they’re centered around the holidays. For example, we have classics like Silence of the Lambs (1991) for Valentine’s Day horror; Goosebumps: Attack of the Jack-O’-Lanterns (1996) for Halloween horror; Jack Frost (1997) for Christmas horror… but I can’t help think that Easter horror draws the short straw!

Nevertheless, let’s embark on this Easter hunt together and peel back the foil on the best holiday themed gems to read, watch or play this April.

This book tells the story of Crystal and her brother Cole, who find themselves spitting feathers after playing one too many pranks on the local ‘witch’! Resurrection (1999)

Chicago homicide detectives Prudhome and Hollingsworth are assigned to investigate as the city is traumatised by the gruesome murders of a mad man set out to rebuild the body of Christ. As the detectives dive deeper and deeper into the case, will they come to regret getting hot on the heels of this serial killer?

The Blair Rabbit project cover art

The Blair Rabbit Project (2021)

If you’re a fan of The Blair Witch Project (1999) – or even just a fan of parodies – then you might want to stayed tuned! A classic like TBWP deserves a parody unlike any other… so I’d like to introduce you to the perfectly unpolished parody that is The Blair Rabbit Project.

Shot in 1999, a group of amateur documentary film-makers head into the woods to search for evidence of the legendary mutant-rabbit monster… Will they find what they were looking for, or will they find themselves at the mercy of The Blare Rabbit?! Watch this recently restored (2021) horror parody that perfectly blends gut-wrenching horror with gut-busting humour!

Little Witches 1996 cover art

Little Witches (1996)

Have you ever wanted to watch a cheaper, cheesier version of The Craft? Well, now you can! While the two films have different plots, they share thematic elements of teenage rebellion, the occult and the consequences of dabbling in the dark and dangerous world of black magic.

In Little Witches, watch how a group of Catholic school girls unleash evil beyond their imagination when they discover an ancient book of spells while left alone at the school during Easter week. We know isn’t exactly an award-winning movie, but it definitely contains all the right ingredients for a brilliantly bad ‘b movie’!

It wasn't until I met Klaus at the age of 28 that he introduced me to the weird & wonderful world of horror, Halloween and all things haunted! Now I'm joining him on his quest to create a website that both informs and entertains fellow 90s horror enthusiasts. So why not buckle up and join us for the ride?
