Resident Evil 2
Resident Evil 2 was originally released on the PlayStation in 1998, and was made available for the N64 in 1999 in North America (2000 in Europe). This was later re-vamped for the PS4, PC and Xbox 1 in January 2019 (although I prefer the original!).
The narrative of the game centres on Claire Redfield and Leon S. Kennedy as they struggle to survive in a zombie-infested Raccoon City. To survive, players must solve puzzles, conserve ammo, and fend off terrifying creatures. Fans of the game adore its visuals, setting, and narrative.
Turok 2: Seeds of Evil
Turok 2: Seeds of Evil is a first-person shooter game released on the Nintendo 64 in 1998. The game serves as a sequel to the original Turok: Dinosaur Hunter (1997) and follows the character Joshua Fireseed as he fights against an ancient evil named Primagen. Turok 2 is well-known for its unique weapons, challenging enemies, and large levels to explore. This game added to the horror atmosphere with its dark environments and suspenseful music, making it a must-play for fans of the genre.
Doom 64
Doom 64 is a first-person shooter and a continuation of the classic Doom series on the Nintendo 64, released in 1997. Players take on the role of an unnamed space marine who must battle his way through hordes of demonic enemies to prevent an invasion from Hell. With updated graphics, new levels, and a sinister atmosphere, Doom 64 proved to be a thrilling entry in the horror genre on the Nintendo 64 console.

Nightmare Creatures
One of my personal favourites, Nightmare Creatures is an action-adventure horror game that hit the N64 in 1998. Players can choose to control monster hunter Ignatius Blackward or martial artist Nadia Franciscus in their quest to stop a monstrous cult from taking over 19th-century London. The game challenges players with its dark atmosphere, grotesque enemies, and intense combat. Nightmare Creatures remains a cult classic for fans of the horror genre on the Nintendo 64.
Quake 64
You’re an unnamed protagonist, shooting and eviscerating all in your path to destroy an enemy code-named Quake. From the same creators of DOOM, this more sci-fi offering is no less brutal than its demonic counterpart.
Quake has it all, gothic architecture and scenery, frantic-paced FPS action, a varied and horrifying ensemble of enemies to fight against, and a spooky soundtrack.
Good news for those who want to play this straight away, there’s a revamp of the game available on the Nintendo Switch store.
